Guidelines on preparing an effective Scholarship application for scholarships such as the UK Government & British Council Jubilee FULL Masters Scholarship

Some useful guidelines to remember !
CV/Resume
Prepare a resume highlighting your academic qualifications & achievements, work experience (if any), and extracurricular activities in no more than 2 A4 pages
Statement of Purpose
The Statement of Purpose in the application form is MOST important and should be as clear and explicit as possible. Try and keep it with 2 A4 pages
·         Reasons for choosing this particular course / research programme and institution
·         Your subject of interest
·         The suitability of your education & background for this programme
·         Your present & future goals & how this programme fits into your future plans
·         Extra curricular activities
·         What you think you can contribute to the course / institution 
Additional issues to incorporate in your essay:
  • Demonstrate ambition, entrepreneurial and creative spirit and leadership skills based on your background and achievements to date
  • Demonstrate commitment to return to India and make a contribution to the future development of the country. Be realistic (!)
  • Highlight your career ambition (say in the next 5 years) particularly after studying in the UK
  • Detail your suitability for the proposed programme and the scholarship and how this will help you in your career
  • Try and indicate how the Scholarship funding is appropriate for you given availability of your/family funds. Would you be able to undertake the proposed course of study without this funding ?
Academic Reference
Areas for your referee to highlight as indicated on the reference form:
  • Intellectual capabilities
  • Motivation
  • Analytical skills
  • Communication skills
  • Overall as compared to your peers.
Discuss with your referee your areas of strength and areas for improvement. Give him/her insight regarding assessment in terms of your academic and intellectual ability and achievements to date.
Choose an appropriate referee who can indicate and complete ALL areas as stated above
Professional Reference
Areas to highlight by your referee as indicated on the reference form:
  • Intellectual capabilities
  • Motivation
  • Analytical skills
  • Communication skills
  • Overall as compared to his/her peers.
  • Problem solving ability
  • Leadership qualities
  • Team management skills

Choose an appropriate referee who can indicate and complete ALL areas as stated above
